“Going solar” to reduce emissions at our Town Border Stations
SaskEnergy’s Town Border Station (TBS) 1 in southwest Regina has begun to generate enough solar power to offset its annual consumption. The conversion of the Regina station to generate solar power included the installation of 176 solar panels on-site. During the day, the panels will not only generate enough energy to power the station itself but will, at times, create excess energy for the province’s power grid. Once the sun sets, the station will draw power off the grid through a net metering agreement with SaskPower. The solar power system at TBS 1 has a total generation capacity of nearly...

Highlighting Saskatchewan Community Organizations Through Share the Warmth Days
There is a lot of good that sharing a little warmth can do. In honour of the 30th anniversary of SaskEnergy’s Share the Warmth program, we launched Share the Warmth Days. The initiative — which ran until February 13 — featured a series of events across the province aimed at highlighting community-based organizations who bring warmth, including shelter, food, clothing and mental health services, to those who need it most. For Share the Warmth Days, SaskEnergy volunteers partnered with a local organization that was one of this year’s Share the Warmth grant recipients to hand out bags of...

History uncovered in Saskatoon’s Nutana neighbourhood
SaskEnergy is committed to protecting heritage and cultural sites in our day-to-day operations. With the help of a heritage screening tool, SaskEnergy has uncovered some of Saskatchewan’s history. The tool — which is GIS-based — is used before the start of our digging projects. It helps determine if a work site needs extra assessment or more resources. The screening tool was used for the 2021 upgrade of service lines in the Nutana neighbourhood in Saskatoon — one of the oldest areas of the city. Because the area is heritage sensitive, a Heritage Resources Impact Assessment was also done. An...
