Energy Saving Tips

Save energy, save money. To avoid peak winter bills, sign up for the Equalized Payment Plan to spread your annual natural gas costs into equal monthly payments. When upgrading appliances look for the ENERGY STAR® certification. These products have higher energy efficiency levels and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Furnace and Thermostat A furnace that works at peak efficiency will use less energy and cost less to operate. Keep your furnace clean, lubricated and adjusted with annual maintenance. Every 1 to 2 months, clean or replace your furnace filter. A dirty filter reduces the airflow...

Carbon charges and your SaskEnergy bill As part of the federal government’s carbon pricing system, a Federal Carbon Tax applies to all fossil fuels, including natural gas, and is calculated based on the amount you use. Residential Carbon Tax Exemption As of January 1, 2024, SaskEnergy will no longer collect the Federal Carbon Tax on natural gas consumption from residential customers. SaskEnergy will continue to collect the Federal Carbon Tax on natural gas consumption from commercial customers. Have questions? Here are some answers: How do I know if I am a residential customer and therefore...

Federal Carbon Tax to Appear on Upcoming SaskPower and SaskEnergy Bills

Starting April 1, the Federal Carbon Tax will be applied to all bills received by SaskPower and SaskEnergy customers. This will result in a monthly increase for the average residential customer of about $2 for power and $9 for natural gas for the rest of 2019. “In Prairie Resilience, our government has a Saskatchewan-based solution to lower greenhouse gas emissions without a tax,” Minister Responsible for SaskPower Dustin Duncan said. “SaskPower worked hard to ensure there would be no rate increase this year. The federal government is imposing a carbon tax that will take more than $52 million...
