Safety reasons force removal of more services at Last Mountain Lake

Due to continued high levels of ground movement in key zones within six Last Mountain Lake communities, SaskEnergy today announced it will be permanently removing natural gas service for about 250 property owners, or about 16% of its customer base in the area. SaskEnergy monitors ground movement using below-ground measurement devices, natural gas leak surveys, geotechnical analysis, mapping and satellite monitoring. Since the summer of 2014, SaskEnergy has repaired underground leaks on its system in the impacted zones at significantly higher rates compared to the provincial average. “We...

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a little of both?! It’s actually a drone equipped with a camera, and it has been providing SaskEnergy with several benefits over the last two summers. “Using a drone gives a bird’s eye view of our construction and reclamation work,” says Ashley Syrgiannis of our Environment & Sustainability team. “They are efficient from a time and cost perspective, and they allow us to make more informed environmental decisions.” Prior to a construction project, Ashley and her team use a drone to assist in environmental field surveys. “A drone can help get into areas that are...

The purpose of this declaration is to remind the public that clicking or calling for a free line locate and digging safely around underground infrastructure are crucial steps on the path to safety. “Although April is officially Safe Digging Month in the province, we want contractors and homeowners to make every day safe on site throughout the construction season,” said Honourable Joe Hargrave...

Many people in Regina were a little warmer, happier and healthier this holiday season thanks to the generous support of SaskEnergy staff. “This is the time of year to reflect on what is really important in life and to highlight the importance of giving, especially to those who need it most,” says SaskEnergy employee Wendi Frederick. In early December, Wendi led a campaign to build feminine hygiene kits to donate to various organizations in Regina and quickly found support from her coworkers. In total, $1,779 was raised through the campaign. This was enough to create 27 kits, which were donated...

System upgrades resulting in lower emissions

At SaskEnergy, we are committed to reducing emissions from our operations by 35 per cent by 2030. A lot of the work to achieve this goal involves technological upgrades to our system through three focus areas — vent gas reduction, optimization and renewable electricity. New systems We are designing and installing new flare systems at our stations across Saskatchewan, to cut down the amount of gas that is vented through our operations. Flare systems are regularly shown on TV news, or you may have noticed them while driving by – a flame coming from the top of a tall thin pipe at a SaskEnergy...

SaskEnergy and its Network Members are back again to help homeowners with furnace maintenance

After a very successful Tune-Up Assistance Program (TAP) in 2018, SaskEnergy and its Network of plumbing and heating contractors are teaming up again in hopes of continuing to provide quality furnace maintenance to low-income homeowners across the province. TAP highlights the importance of annual maintenance on natural gas home heating systems and carbon monoxide detection. The program was created to assist low income homeowners by providing a hands-on examination of a home’s heating equipment to make sure it is ready for the onset of cooler temperatures. Applications are now being accepted...

Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week Declared November 6 to 10

Invisible, tasteless, odourless, and poisonous. Carbon Monoxide (CO) has earned its reputation as the silent killer. To help raise awareness about CO safety, the Government of Saskatchewan has recognized November 6-10 as Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week. “This week is dedicated to ensuring the people of our province know how to protect themselves and their loved ones from the dangers of carbon monoxide,” Minister Responsible for SaskEnergy Dustin Duncan said. “A working CO detector can alert you to danger before physical symptoms appear, which is why our government made CO alarms mandatory in...

Gas Retailers

Buying from a third-party supplier Gas Retailers are independent suppliers and are not affiliated with/or endorsed by SaskEnergy. In Saskatchewan, you have the option to buy natural gas from an authorized Gas Retailer if your annual consumption is less than 660,000 m 3. Similar to any purchase decision, it’s important to educate yourself on whether you are dealing with a reputable company and to understand the contract you are signing. SaskEnergy can’t provide advice, recommendations, or guarantees related to a supply contract, credit worthiness, or business practices of a Gas Retailer...

Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week: Beware of the Silent Killer

Halloween may be over, but something frightening could still lurk in your home. Invisible, odourless, and poisonous, carbon monoxide (CO) is known as the silent killer. “To save lives and prevent life-threatening emergencies, it’s important that we continue to educate people about the dangers of carbon monoxide and ways to avoid the buildup of this potentially deadly gas,” Minister Responsible for SaskEnergy Don Morgan said. “That’s why our government has proclaimed November 1-5 as Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week in Saskatchewan.” Earlier this year, the perils of carbon monoxide were driven...
